Contraceptive Methods in Mothers with Unwanted Pregnancy Referring to the Selected Hospitals of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2018

Background: Because unwanted pregnancy is a global problem that has many health, social and economic consequences, unwanted pregnancy is now used as a health indicator for the community. Today, the failure of pregnancy prevention methods and not using of Contraceptive methods are mentioned as two reasons for unwanted pregnancy. Methods: The present study is a descriptive and analytical study conducted on 84 pregnant women with unwanted pregnancy referred to Hafez and Shooshtari health centers of Shiraz in 2018. Convenience sampling was used in this study. Demographic Information Questionnaire, informed Consent Form and Fertility Profile were used as study tools for data collection. Data was analyzed using Spss and descriptive statistics Results: According to the study findings, the most commonly used pregnancy preventive methods included hormonal methods (9.8%), using condom (15.9%), IUD (4.9%) and normal pregnancy prevention method, respectively. Frequency of unwanted pregnancy of the couples was 75% in users of oral contraceptives, 84.6% in condom users, 75% in IUD method and 86.5% in normal pregnancy prevention method. Conclusion: Most research units that have experienced unwanted pregnancy actually have used natural methods that require more training on the use of safer methods.
