Challenges of home visit for women with high risk pregnancy : A qualitative study

Introduction: Recently, Home health visit has been described as the fastest growing segment of personal health care. The many studies shown that it could be an effective alternative to hospital care in many certain situations. In some countries, it is also being considered, therefore due to evidence of its impact, for pregnant mothers as a health promotion strategy especially for at risk women. But home visit is a new issue in Iran; it seems that there are many unknown aspects of challenges to implement. This study was designed to explore challenges of home visit in mothers in Iranian sociocultural context. Method: This study was conducted with a qualitative approach, using conventional content analysis. 28 participants (including mothers having hypertension, maternal health policy-makers, midwives, obstetricians and health Care Providers) were selected through purposeful sampling with maximum variation. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and continued until saturation. At the same time, data were analyzed and encoded, similar codes were combined, and primary categories were made, then the same categories were put together. Finally, the main categories were extracted. Trustworthiness of the findings confirmed by multiple methods.Results: the four main categories of the challenge of providing home care services including : undesirable quality of current care of high risk pregnancy ,cultural obstacle , safety concerns and Lack of infrastructure was extracted Conclusion: Paying attention to the challenge based on the socio - cultural context of the community, and the effort to remove barriers and arrangement of home visit infrastructures, can help improve the quality of care women with high risk pregnancy.
