The Role of Drivers Cultural Capital in Changing Driving Behavior in Shiraz

Background: One of the most important challenges in the field of urban discipline is the issue of driver behavior while driving, which has very important consequences in the area of traffic accidents and traffic. The statistics on driving violations confirm this, especially in urban centers. One of the different variables affects the driving behavior style, the most important of which is cultural capital. This paper, which is the result of empirical work in this field, seeks to investigate the relationship between cultural capital and driving behavior.Methods: The method used in this research is field method and survey technique. The research tool is a researcher-made questionnaire that was completed by the respondents. The statistical population of the study was all drivers over 18 years old in Shiraz city. 280 of them were randomly selected and surveyed. Face validity was used to validate items and Cronbach s alpha was used to assess reliability.Results: The descriptive findings showed that the mean age of the respondents was 35 years and the standard deviation was 4 years. The highest frequency of education is among diploma respondents and more than 76% of respondents are male. The inferential findings of the study showed that there is a significant relationship between cultural capital and adherence to traffic rules, which means that the more it adds to the cultural capital of the drivers, the more it adheres to the rules of driving.Conclusion: Given the very significant impact that cultural capital drivers have on driving laws, it is necessary for the mechanism to increase cultural capital among drivers be on the agenda of officials and planners. Any erosion of cultural capital in this regard has disastrous consequences
