چکیده مقاله:

As Japan is located at the East Asia where many complicated tectonics intersect, Japan is considered as the most earthquake prone country in the world. On the other hand, Japan is known as the first country in which the earthquake resistant design was completed at the beginning of the twentieth century in the world. Until now, our earthquake resistant regulations have been revised by the strong earthquakes frequently occurred in Japan. As the seismic isolation technology has been developed recently, we could get very high seismic capacity for buildings not only structural members but also the nonstructural elements and furniture. In Japan the number of seismically isolated buildings has increased drastically since 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake. Now total number of seismically isolated buildings including detached houses is about 3500. The increase of this number has been based on the fact that the behavior of the buildings during the strong earthquake which occurred recently in Japan has been very safe. This technology will be able to be expected in future as the excellent earthquake resistant technology for various types of structures, ground conditions and the retrofit buildings as well as the new buildings.
