Back ground and aim: Postpartum depression PPD has negative effects on developmental and behavioral functions of newborn, mother-child relationship and mother’s health. The etiology of postpartum depression is very complex. Social support and marital satisfaction are known as risk factors for postpartum depression. Accordingly the aim of this study was to determine the comparison between social support and marital satisfaction in non-depressed women and women with postpartum depression referred to health centers in the jahrom city.Material & Methods: It was a cross-sectional study. In order to achieve the purpose of article 4 health centers of jahrom randomly is chosen. The sample consisted of 60 mothers at least 6 weeks after their delivery. These mothers divided into two groups of postpartum depression 30 person and non-depressed women 30person . Data was collected by Perceived Social Support Scale, marital satisfaction and Edinburgh questionnaires. Results: The average age of depressed and non- depressed female was accordingly 28/1 and 29/4 . Overall the results of the analysis suggest significant differences between mar ital satisfaction P<01 and social support P<001 in women with postpartum depression. versus non-depressed women accordingly P<3 , P<4Conclusion: Lack or insufficiency of social support and marital satisfaction in postpartum phase can be seen as strong risk factors for postpartum depression. To prevent negative outcomes of postpartum depressions, encouragement of husbands and family to support women in their antenatal and postpartum phase is recommended.
