چکیده مقاله:

The present research attempts to investigate Quranic allusions by Domestication and foreignization strategies proposed by Lawrance Venuti (1995) in the English translation of Persian poetry. Domestication is the strategy of making text closely conform to the culture of the language being translated to, which may involve the loss of information from the source text (ST),it means that the translator leaves the reader in peace, and moves the author towards him.Foreignization is the strategy of retaining information from the source text and involves deliberately break the conventions of the target language (TL) to preserve its meaning, it means to take the reader to the foreigner culture and to make him/her feel the linguistic and culture differences. Poetry translation has always been the most controversial and troublesome task for any translator. Even if the translator possess a profound knowledge in the source language (SL).He/she wouldn't be able to replica of original text. Translating allusions in poems is more difficult because they have particular concept in the language and the culture of the origin, which are not necessarily the same in all languages. Especially translation of Quranic allusions that are deeply rooted in our religion and faith.Quranic allusion is a kind of religious allusion. Religious scriptures have always been a source of inspiration for poets and authors of literary texts; and may be it is unfamiliar for a nonnative reader to comprehend the intended meaning. In this study the researcher attempts to investigate 40 samples of Quranic allusions in the second book of Mowlavi's Mathnavi according to its translation by R.A.Nicholson the eminent translator and orientalist. The procedure adapted in this research consists of analyzing the above mentioned poems and the theoretical framework of the present study is based on the dichotomy Domestication and foreignization proposed by Lawrance Venuti. In this research the strategy of domestication is divided into seven procedures Interpretation, Cultural equivalent, Adaptation, Addition, Omission, Approximation and Synonym and strategy of foreignization is divided in to three procedures of Borrowing/Transference, Calque and Literal Translation. In this study it has been concluded that English native translator Nicholson used foreignization more than Domestication. Also considering second research question Nicholson's skill in translating Mowlavi's Mathnavi is exemplary. He could transfer the intended meaning of the original poem to the target audience. The remarkable features of Nicholson's translation are: removing the additional lines to Mathnavi's poems, using authentic and old manuscripts in editing, recording discrepancy between different versions.
