Investment in Road Imrovement and Its Safety Benefits

Iran consistently has one of the highest traffic fatality rates in the world. Traffic accidents killed 20068 people in Iran from March 2011 to 2012. Improving safety features and roadway design will help reduce the number of Iranians who lose their lives in traffic accidents. Statistics show that increased investment in road and bridge improvements saves lives. Making road lanes and shoulders wider, adding medians and improving bridges are just a few of the improvements that have been shown to significantly reduce fatalities. In this paper we have investigated that is it generally true that higher order roads are safer or not.
