Mesocarbon microbead (MCMB) bodies with high density and high bending strength was prepared by cold isostatic press of mesophase carbon powder derived from mesophase pitch that mixed with nano SiC and B4C particles. All samples were carbonized under graphite bed until 1000 °C. Microstructure observations resultant samples were performed by scanning electron microscopy and transition electron microscopy (SEM & TEM). Mass loss, shrinkage and bulk density of final samples were also measured and calculated. Results showed that addition of nano B4C particles could significantly reduce the mass loss of samples rather than nano SiC particles during carbonization with same shrinkage. Results also indicates that the density of samples with nano additive increase significantly in compare to the free nano additives samples. Results also illustrates the effect of nano sized B4C is more than SiC nano particles to increase of density and bending strength.
