SYNTHESS AND CHARACTERIZATON OF TUNGSTEN TROXDE NANOPARTICLES FROM THE ORIGN OF WC-%6CO SCRAPES BY A SOL-GEL METHOD

In current research work WC-%6Co scraps were employed as starting materials for synthesizing tungsten oxide (WO3) nano-particles. As a medium product sodium tungstate (Na2WO4) was prepared by alkaline fusion of WC-%6Co scrapes at 680-700C. Then sodium tungstate solution was let to flow through a buret packed with protonated cation-exchange resin. The effluent was dropped in an oxalic acid solution and after stirring for 24 hours at room temperature, the colorless solution was heated at 150C. The subsequent calcination of white dried powders at 500C for 6 hours, caused the formation of yellow tungsten oxide. The purity of sodium tungstate solution was analyzed by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Synthesized WO3 nano-particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis methods. It was found that pure WO nano-particles with average particle size of 67 nm were successfully synthesized. The most figure of merit of this work is to use WC-%6Co scrapes as starting materials to fabricate WO nanopowders.
