Multi criteria analysis of alternative vehicle for public transportation case study Tehran Iran

Nowadays, people just do not pay attention to the economic issues of transportation. But people decide based on the factors that exist in people's minds, prioritize and select the best type of transportation. This article aims to choose the best vehicle based on various factors, transportation in the city of Tehran. Therefore, the most important variables were identified for transportation. And they were classified as eleven factors. Then we designed a questionnaire. Experts confirm the questionnaire. We distribution it and data collected. And traffic speed gained the most weight and identified as the most important factor for a type of vehicle. The AHP method was used to identify relationships between variables. And the contribution of each of the 11 factors examined for all of the vehicles. We use VIKOR method to select the best vehicle. Based on the collected data, we chose Metro as the best means of transportation. And on the other hand, given the importance of both factors in both the time and cost of travel for residents of Tehran, the cost per kilometer traveled (exchange rate: 1 $ = 20,000 Rials) according to relevant statistics, the times for transport vehicles, peak and non- peak hours in 2012 obtained. And Metro with considering its specific characteristics versus other means of transport, obtained the highest weight gain. And finally, expand this type of transportation was offered to Tehran.
