چکیده مقاله:

Background: Preeclampsia is a complex pregnancy complication that can have serious consequences for the mother and fetus. This situation is known as hypertension and proteinuria in the second half of pregnancy and the only way to cure is pregnancy termination. The exact etiology of the disease is unclear, but there are some reports about the association of this condition and diabetes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the proteinuria in pregnant women with suspected preeclampsia and its association with glucosuria. Methods: This case-control study was performed on 215 pregnant women referred to Bibi-Hakimeh Khatun Maternal and Child Hospital in Gachsaran, Iran. All patients were diagnosed with preeclampsia after referring to a gynecologist and were referred to the maternal and child hospital laboratory for U/A testing. Urine samples were analyzed for glucose and protein by an experienced laboratory expert. Results: The results showed that 177 (50.7%) of those with suspected preeclampsia had proteinuria. Of these, 33% had low protein (Trace and Positive (+)) excretion and 17.7% had moderate (Positive (++)) and severe (Positive (+++) & (++++) protein excretion. Also, 11.2% of participants in the study had low (Trace and Positive (+) glucosuria and 7.9% had moderate (Positive (++)) and severe (Positive (+++) & (++++)).There is no significant relationship between proteinuria and glucosuria in patients with suspected preeclampsia. Also, there was no significant relationship between proteinuria and residency status and age. There was no significant relationship between age and glucosuria, but it was shown that urban women participating in the study had higher glucose excretion.Message for policimakers: The results of this study indicate that there is no relationship between the probability of gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. The results also show that urban people are more at risk of gestational diabetes. Further study is recommended.
