Passive vibration control of rectangular rotating plates through piezoelectric elements is studied in the presentwork. A recently developed linear modelling approach, which takes the nonlinear effects of the motion of the plate intoaccount, is adapted as the framework for this study. A Piezoelectric patch shunted by a RLC circuit is considered to beaffixed to the plate in order to damp the lateral vibrations. The Hamilton’s principle, which is used in this work to derivethe equations of motion of the plate, allows for the introduction of the electromechanical couplings between the plate andthe actuator into the equations. The system of equations is solved with a program written in Matlab script. The resultsof the proposed methods are validated with available data in the literature. Frequency response function diagrams areplotted by using the output signal from the piezoelectric sensor patch and are compared with the undamped condition.It is shown that this method (using standard values for the RLC circuit) can achieve up to 6% reduction in the resonantresponse, which is believed to be quite significant since it is obtained merely through dissipating the electrical energy inthe RLC circuit without any external power supply.
