چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Today, due to the increased life expectancy and quality of life, wound healing is one of the priorities. Accordingly, finding suitable therapeutic methods for wound healing to reduce the severity of symptoms, being accessible and cost-effective with lesser side effects has always been considered. In this regard, several studies have been done to find appropriate therapeutic methods, such as application of natural products, which was evaluated in this review. Methods: This review assessed 50 articles retrieved from databases, including Google Scholar, Pubmed, SID, Web of science, Since Direct, Magiran, Scopus using keywords of wound, wound healing and honey and their full texts were evaluated. Results: Wound healing using honey-containing products can reduce the costs and reduce antibiotic use in the patient, which is an effective strategy for the treatment of all wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers. Topical application of honey for treatment of open wounds accelerates the wound healing process and one week after treatment, new granular tissue in the wound is fully formed within 2 weeks leading to the closed wounds.Antimicrobial and healing properties of honey can accelerate wound healing. Conclusion: One therapeutic method alone cannot be effective in wound healing, and proper combination therapies using modern strategies are effective in improving microcirculation, proper oxygenation and debridement and providing suitable environment for epithelial cell growth. The combination of modern therapeutic methods and using herbal and organic products provide the opportunity to develop more appropriate applications in clinical practice.
