چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the skin and mucosa. The primary treatment for oral lichen planus is the topical use of corticosteroids. However, prolonged use of these can have side effects and is also seen in cases of relapse and resistance to treatment. Two antioxidant and biological drug groups have been introduced as alternative therapies. Methods: This is a review study conducted in 1398 through an advanced search of reputable scientific databases and websites, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus and ScienceDirect. Keywords used include lichen planus , corticosteroids , antioxidants and biological and articles reviewed from 2000 to 2019. After the initial search, only the title and abstract were examined for relevance to the study objectives and the unrelated articles were excluded. The articles related to the study were also evaluated through the JBI tool. Results: In general, the results showed a good therapeutic effect of both steroidal and non-steroidal types of mouthwash. Biological drugs have recently been targeted for specific therapies and may be a viable alternative to corticosteroids. However, the biological drug class is still at the forefront, and further studies are needed to evaluate their function. Conclusion: It seems that antioxidants and biologics can be used as an alternative and appropriate strategies in cases of dysfunction, recurrence, resistance to treatment or severe local and systemic side effects associated with current therapies such as corticosteroids. Oral lichen planus lesions are used.
