Effect of Fe loading and temperature on products yield distribution in thermal catalytic cracking of naphtha to light olefins over HZSM-5

The effect of temperature and Fe loading over HZSM-5 catalyst in thermal-catalytic cracking of naphtha for production of light olefins has been studied. The temperature and loading were varied in the range 620-680°C and 2-10 wt.% Fe, respectively. The results show that ethylene increases with temperature, while the propylene shows an optimum at 650°C. Addition of Fe to HZSM-5 had a favorable effect on the production of light olefins up to 6% of loading. The yield of ethylene at 680°C and 6% Fe compared to unmodified zeolite, 14.9% increased. Excess amount of loading decreased the conversion of naphtha which leads to drop in light olefin yields.
