Bio Data: Atefe Ansari is a MA student of TEFL at Azad University of Yazd. She is an EFL teacher at Iran Language Institute (ILI), Yazd Branch. She has been teaching English for about ٦ years. Phonetics plays a crucial role in speaking a second language. It is an essential component of languages and a branch of linguistics which deals with the system of the sounds. Phonetics is concerned with how sounds are produced, transmitted and perceived. It consists of three main sub-fields: articulatory phonetics, acoustic phonetics and perceptual phonetics. In this study, the phonetics awareness in English Language Teaching (ELT) is emphasized and the impact of phonetics on language is summarized. Phonetics awareness is a salient factor in a writing system, since letters depict sounds. The purpose of the current study is to review the use of phonetics in ELT and it may be helpful for teachers and researchers as well. Conclusions of this study could be further discussed with reference to earlier findings.
