Intonation viewed in various contexts has been the focus of many studies. Consideration of the complex characteristics of intonation units is necessary in order to have a more precise application of intonation to speech. This paper reviews the main concepts for describing and studying intonation regarding the nature of interlingual and intercultural communication Thus, it can pave the way for the better understanding of the system of intonation.
