A single-step synthetic method for the preparation of magnetite nanoparticles under hydrothermal condition is investigated using ferric sulfate as the source of iron. The method was found to be suitable for the preparation of both capped and uncapped nanoparticles. The synthesized magnetite nanoparticles were in range of 3-20 nm and were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and an analytical method. The results show that the size of the particles is intensively affected by the reaction temperature and it is possible to have good control on the particles size by adjusting the temperature of hydrothermal operation
