A new approach to cementing allows the design of high performance slurries at low as well as high densities. The technology decouples slurry and set cement performance from the slurry density. Using this technique new light weight cement slurries as low as 8.34 PPG can be designed with high compressive strength, low permeability, and low porosity for application such as completion in reservoirs with low fracture gradients, geothermal wells, single slurry for both lead and tail and many more. The technology is based on the correct selection of components for the dry blend with compounds of proper specific gravity and in an optimum ratio. The new LWC RIPI technology increases the solids contents of the slurry. Smaller particle sizes fill the void space between larger ones, resulting in slurry requiring less water during mixing and pumping. Mechanical properties of cement- based materials with nano HSL was recently studied. Experimental results demonstrated an increase in compressive and flexural strength of mortars containing nano–particles. Based on the available data, the beneficial action of the nanoparticles on the microstructure and performance of cement-based materials can be explained by the following factors:
