Background: Decision-making is a unique concept in nursing, affected by personal characteristics, profession and environmental factors. Awareness of decision-making style of nurses who have high clinical competence is fundamental for establishing the proper educative programs. In this order, the current study was conducted to determine the correlation between general decision-making style and clinical competence of nurses.Methods: In a correlational research, 204 nurses working in educational hospitals of Kermanshah recruited to the study. The tools included clinical competence of Benner and Scott and Bruce decision-making styles questioners. Data collected by referring to the workplace of samples, after completing the instruments, they entered to SPSS-16 software, and analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics.Results: Mean and Standard deviation of total clinical competence was 69.56± 10.74. The mean number of rational decision- making (17.97± 3.07) and intuitive decision-making (17.95± 3.43) styles was higher than other styles. There was positive relationship between rational(r=0.209 P=0.003) and intuitive (r=0.193 P=0.006) decision- making styles with clinical competence, significantly.Conclusion: in this study, there was positive relationship between rational and intuitive decision- making styles with clinical competence, so, in order to reinforce these styles in nurses and nursing students; it is suggested for designing the appropriate educational programs and incorporating them in nursing curriculum.
