Nanocrystalline titanium dioxide pillared zirconium phosphate was prepared by intercalating titanium (IV) isopropoxide sol inside the phosphate layer. This pillared sample is stable up to 500°C and exhibit highest surface area with high photocatalytic activities. In the present work, photodegradation of methyl green (MG) was studied in aqueous solution over titania pillared zirconium phosphate under UV-radiation. The reaction was studied by varying different parameters such as pH, titania load, catalyst concentration, initial MG concentration, irradiation time. The degradation process approximately obeyed first-order kinetics with apparent rate of degradation constant increasing with decreasing the initial MG concentration.
