خلاصه مقاله:
The present study is an attempt to investigate the impact of learners’ vocabulary knowledge on vocabulary learning strategy use. It identifies two dimensions of vocabulary knowledge as depth and breadth and investigates the role they play in vocabulary learning strategy use. The participants of the study were thirty EFL learners of one of the language teaching institutes in Bushehr. To collect the relevant data, two tests measuring breadth and depth of vocabulary knowledge were administered to all participants. They also received a vocabulary learning strategy test in which they were asked to talk about the frequency of the strategy use. As a result of data analysis, the findings indicated that the learners’ vocabulary knowledge affects their strategy use. The results further revealed that depth and breadth of vocabulary knowledge are positively correlated, that is, those learners who had large vocabulary size had deeper knowledge of the words, too
