Textbooks play a pivotal role in language classrooms and educational system, all over the world. The present study will compare two English textbooks, the first one is Interchange1 Third edition by Jack C. Richards and the other one is English Book1 of Iranian high schools, by Dr.Birjandy et al. the comparison will illustrate the probable similarities and differences in terms of: content, vocabulary, grammar, reading, exercises and activities, pronunciation practice, physical makeup, language functions.This study will use a descriptive design. The present study will use a checklist which is a selection of some of other authors' checklists, like: Ali Jahangard (2008), Massoud Rahimpour (2011), Hasan Ansary and Esmat Babaii, Leslie E.Sheldon (1988), Joshoua Miekly (2005), Paul Dickinson (2010).According to Cunningworth (1995) and Ellis (1997), textbook evaluation helps teachers move beyond impressionistic assessments and it helps them to acquire useful, accurate, systematic, and contextual insights into the overall nature of textbook material.This study by illustrating the probable similarities and differences of two English language textbooks will be useful for material developers and also educationalists in order to improve the English language textbooks by considering the probable shortage of textbooks to enhance learning and motivation.
