in the mechanistic method of pavement design it is necessary to know the contact area between tyre and pavement contact area shape so the axle load can be assumed to be uniformly distributed over the contact area most pavement analysts assume that the normal component of the contactpressure between tyre and road surface is uniformacts over a circular area and is nominally equal to the inflation pressure in this paper the effect of wheel load contact area shape on the compress strain on the top of subgrade and rutting for a typical pavement is investigated
