This paper aims to analyze the concept of death in Sylvia Plath s Ariel through the lens of Kristeva. It seems that Plath s dominant theme throughout her major poem collection runs through death desire. Throughout her text, Plath represents death as a means of survival and escape of a dull, dead life. Plath s major concern of death stems from her father s death in her immaturity, which then inflicted on her psyche an urge to experience it personally. Moreover, Plath s death desire is a means of rebirth. In Kristeva s notion death is a return to the chora or the place of birth.
کلمات کلیدی: Abjection, chora, death desire, rebirth
