چکیده مقاله:

Background: Our study aims to determine the correlation between breastcancer tumor size according to imaging (ultrasonography and mammography)with final pathologic report as a gold standard. Methods:We included ۱۳۲ women with pathologically proven invasive breastcancer between April ۲۰۱۱ and December ۲۰۱۳. Study variables included tumorsize according to pathology (as a gold standard), ultrasonography andmammography. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to show correlations. Results: A total of ۱۳۲ patients were included in the final analysis. Thecorrelation coefficient between tumor size in mammography and pathology was۰.۷۴ (P< ۰.۰۰۱) and between ultrasonography and pathology was ۰.۶۷ (P< ۰.۰۰۱).Age had a modifying effect on the correlation between mammography andpathology; the correlation coefficient in women who aged ۴۰ years or above was۰.۹۲ (P < ۰.۰۰۱) and in women younger than ۴۰ years was ۰.۷۴ (P < ۰.۰۰۱).Similarly, regarding the association between ultrasonography and pathologictumor size, higher correlation coefficient was observed for women aging ۴۰ yearsor above compared with their younger counterparts (۰.۷۴ versus ۰.۶۲,respectively).Conclusions: measuring tumor size in mammography whenever possiblewould be recommended considering the higher and significant observedcorrelation with the pathologic tumor size compared to ultrasonography. Bothassociations were stronger in women aging ۴۰ years and above.
