Analysis on different passenger car brands' crashworthiness in twovehicle, and rollover crashes on rural roads of Iran

The role of the vehicle in crashes has always been questionable in Iran. This studyinvestigated ۲۹۳,۳۹۴ records of real crash data in Iran involved in two-vehicle and rollovercrashes. This is a very valuable approach in which, in addition to vehicle tests, crashesbased on real-world data are sometimes considered. The ۲۴ prevalently used passenger carbrands of the Iranian fleet during the last ۷ years were used. Binomial Logistic RegressionModel is constructed to make a relationship between driver’s injury severity and safetyperformances of the ۲۴ car brands, which is referred to as the Crashworthiness index (CWI)in this research. The results indicated that Mercedes-Benz, Kia, BMW, and Jack werealways among the top car brands in all two categories of crashes. Furthermore, it was alsoshown that Iranian car brands have poorer performances than their foreign competitors. It isworth mentioning that, Sepand and Peykan showed poorer safety performances in rollovercrashes than in two-vehicle crashes. The findings of this study can be aggregated with thefindings of other researches for obtaining a holistic view on the role of vehicle and crashtype on the level of injury severity of vehicle occupants.
