چکیده مقاله:

Etomidate is an anesthetic induction medicine that isthe first choice, particularly in elderly andcardiovascular patients, due to its favorablehemodynamic stability. There are some complicationswith Etomidate administration nevertheless. Createdpain during the injection, for instance, may bebothering. This study aimed to investigate whether ornot Ondansetron can reduce the injection pain ofEtomidate and if can, which doses of ۴ and ۸ mg aremore effective.to e In this double-blind clinical trial study, ۶۰patientscandidates for general anesthesia with Etomidate, were divided into three groups randomly. Afterinfusing ۳۰۰ ml of normal saline for each patient, ۲minutes before induction, Ondansetron (۸mg),Ondansetron (۴mg), and normal saline (as a placebo)were administered to groups first, second and thirdrespectively. Then Etomidate was given to all patientsin the form of ۱۰ ml ampoules containing ۲۰ mg ofEtomidate equally. The pain score was rated using theFPRS criterion which is from ۰ to ۱۰. Collected datawere analyzed and interpreted. The factor of sex wasn’t an effective eleenmt in the levelof pain but height (p = ۰.۰۳۴) and age affected this level;patients who were in their seventh decade of life had nocomplaints (۵۹.۴%). There was no significant difference inthe mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) (p> ۰.۰۵), themean heart rate (HR) (p> ۰.۰۵), and the mean arterialoxygen saturation (O۲ sat) (p> ۰.۰۵) between the threegroups. The level of pain was considerably different in thestudy groups (p = ۰.۰۰۰) and the ۸ mg Ondansetron grouphad the lowest pain..Ondansetron injection effectively reduces the pain ofetomidate injections, with ondansetron ۸ mg having thegreatest effect. However, one of the potentially dangerousside effects of ondansetron, i.e. prolonging QT, isrecommended to be considered by anesthesiologists as wellas intensive care and pain specialists when prescribinghigh doses of this drug.T usually given to
