چکیده مقاله:

Soils typically exhibit a weak behavior in terms of both shear and tensile strength. Construction and transportation subgrade necessitate the improvement of soil strength properties and in order to achieve certain geotechnical requirements in roadbeds, stabilization and improvementof the soil's mechanical properties may be necessary. Many soil-stabilizing methods areexpensive or cause environmental contamination. Combining soil with sustainable and ecologically friendly materials is one of the most desirable approaches to improve the mechanical behavior of soil. In this research, the mechanical properties of clayey soil stabilized with nanoclay have been examined. Compaction, unconfined compressive strength (UCS), California bearing ratio (CBR) test, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) have been conducted in this study. Three dosage of nano clay of ۰.۴%, ۰.۸%, and ۱% have been utilized for this purpose. The results obtained indicate that the compressive strength of soil stabilized with nanoclay is greatly enhanced. Enhancing the amount of nanoclay decreases the failure strain and raises the soil's elastic modulus, while increasing its bearing capacity. It was observed that feature of filling and the formation of viscous gel, the interaction between soil particles increases when they are coupled with nanoclay. Adding nanoclay to the soil on the surfaces of particles also enhances roughness, friction, and interlocking between particles and can be effective in improving the subgrade strength.
