Fire Protection : Testing and Reasearch in the Twenty Firest Centruty

Safety and Security are important issues for scientists worldwide. Fire scientists in particular are faced with a variety of testing and research needs. Some of these needs these needs are familiar while others are new, as we face new challenges in the twenty first century. Modern research into aspects of safety and security puts the focus on solutions that are needed to make societies safer, solutions that require new types of research and research – co-operations. The present trend for the future is that researchers come together and through co – operation optimize the resources available. This paper will address some of our most pressing needs in the field of fire resistance and protection, ranging from tunnel fire safety, active fire suppression, maritime fire safety, oil storage issues and more , to the environmental effect of fires and how to quantify and combat this effect.
