Effect of cadmium toxicity on micronutrients concentration in shoot and root of two Iranian wheat cultivars

In this research, we studied the effect of Cd on uptake, translocation and concentration of micronutrients including Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn in shoot and root of two Iranian wheat cultivars. Afactorial experiment in completely randomized designed and performed in research greenhouse of Tehran University. The treatments consisted of four levels of Cd (0 (as control), 25, 50 and 100 mg Cd kg-1 soil) and two cultivars of wheat (Azadi and Alvand) respectively. All of pots were incubated forsix months before planting the seeds in order to creation balance between Cd and soil particles.Results showed that for all levels of Cd pollution, nutritional status of Alvand was less affected by Cdin comparing to Azadi cultivar. Also about Azadi cultivar, the average Cd concentration ratios of rootsto shoots were 3.02:2.80:2.72 in Cd25, Cd50 and Cd100 treatments, respectively and these ratios for Alvand cultivar were 2.92:2.60:2.58 that indicated with increasing of Cd level in soil Cd more accumulated in root and on the other hand, translocation ratios were lower in Alvand cultivar in comparing to Azadi cultivar.
