A magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (MMIP) was synthesized and evaluated for selectiveextraction of galantamine from biological samples. The synthesis of the magnetic nanoparticles wereperformed by chemical coprecipitation method then were coated with silica layer and vinyl moieties. MIPlayer was synthesized on the surface of modified magnetic nanoparticles in the presence of galantamine astemplate, methacrylic acid (MAA) as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA)as the cross-linker monomer, ۲,۲′-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator. The synthesized MMIPand MNIP were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, UV-VIS spectrophotometry and scanning electronmicroscope (SEM). Extraction of galantamine molecules from modeling solutions and real samples isfollowed by two steps: sorption and desorption. In this study, solid phase extraction using the magneticimprinted polymer has been optimized with the experimental design approach for galantamine optimumdetermination and factors that probably influence the extraction process, such as pH of loading sample,eluent solvent, volume of the eluent solvent and sorbent mass, were evaluated to achieve the highestextraction efficiency. Batch rebinding capacity of galantamine was determined from the derived. Therecovery percent, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ) and relative standard deviation(RSD %) for biological samples were ۹۵% , ۳ μg l-۱ , ۱۰ μg l-۱ and ۵% by introduced selective solid phaseextraction respectively. Furthermore, the imprinted polymers were successfully applied as a specific solidphaseextractants combined with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for determination ofgalantamine in the biological samples.
