The Effect of Changes in the In-Service Training Method on the Quality of Nursing Care during the Covid-۱۹ Pandemic

Background: Changing in the in-service training method to meet the professional needs of staffs in pandemic COVID- ۱۹ is one of the necessary measures to improve the quality of care and compliance. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effect of new methods of clinical education on the quality of nursing care.Methods: This experimental study was performed in the wards of covid-۱۹ referral hospitals (intervention group) and other hospitals (control group) of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences from ۱۳۹۹ to ۱۴۰۰. During the ۱۲ months, the intervention group has been exposed to various forms of virtual education) use of movies, graphics, podcasts, virtual scenarios, and a combination of virtual education with face-to-face practical experiences) and the control group used the lecture (webinar) method. The checklist for monitoring the care and treatment process during the Covid-۱۹ period (in two stages before and after the intervention) was completed by two evaluators. Also, the score of participation in staff training courses was measured and compared in two stages. Data were analyzed using independent and paired t-test in SPSS software version ۲۰.Results: The results of the study showed that after the interventions, there was a significant difference between the mean scores of the two groups of intervention (۱۰۸.۵ ± ۱۵.۱) and control (۵۹.۶± ۴.۴۱), (p = ۰.۰۲۷). Also the score of participation in courses in the intervention group (۷۶.۱۱± ۲.۳۳) was significantly higher than the control group (۴۵.۶ ± ۱.۷۱), (P = ۰.۰۵۱).Conclusion: In pandemics situations where it is not possible to hold face-to-face training courses and due to concerns about the observance of treatment protocols for the management of Covid-۱۹ patients, this study showed that changing the performance of nursing staff using different methods of in-service training have led to an increase in staff empowerment. Message for policy makers: Changing the in-service training methods in Pandemic and providing various virtual methods, requires the development of infrastructure and tools related to these methods by policy makers as soon as possible and reduce the challenges of implementation.
