New advances of peripheral intervention

Peripheral arterial disease affect 15_20% of persons more than 65 years old, but, only 10_30% of patients with PAD have claudication.Noninvasive evaluation of these patients including measurement of ankle brachial index, treadmill exercise test, Doppler sonography, CT angio and MR angiography.Patients who are symptomatic but unresponsive to medical treatment or suffer from critical limb ischemia should be under endovascular intervention.Mods of peripheral intervention such as drug coated balloon angioplasty, atherectomy, more flexible stenting, BVS, rheolytic or aspiration thrombectmy, mechanical debulking, covered stent, sub intimal reentry and stem cell therapy are under rapid development.Complications of peripheral intervention such as retroperitoneal hemorrhage, perforation, acute thrombosis, distal embolization and most dangerous; compartment syndrome should be keep in mind.
