Hypnosis in Orofacial Pain Conditions

Twenty percent of the European population suffers from chronic pain with a great impact for both the individual and the society. Medical treatment is often insufficient and has severe sideeffects. Hypnosis can be a powerful treatment in chronic pain conditions. Based on the research of mine in the effect of hypnosis on chronic orofacial pain, an insight is given into the evidence for hypnotic pain relief with the use of brain imaging. The clinical studies provided evidence that hypnosis can be effective in persistent atypical orofacial pain conditions and temporomandibular disorder pain. Cases with chronic orofacial pain patients treated with hypnosis will be presented to show the clinical implicationsof various methods used in the clinical studies.
