چکیده مقاله:

Deep Brain Stimulation System (DBS) is a neurosurgical technique of depositing or moving electrical charges in the brain tissue, which involves implanting electrodes in certain areas of the brain to modulate pathological neural activity through applied electrical fields. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has emerged as a powerful clinical technology that has positively impacted the lives of tens of thousands of patients worldwide. Its therapeutic uses include Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia and obsessive-compulsive disorder, etc. As the market for DBS medical devices continues to grow, understanding the therapeutic mechanisms and effects on the nervous system becomes increasingly necessary. Mechanistic studies of deep brain stimulation are experimentally limited by quantifying the spatial distribution of electrical current in the surrounding brain volume as well as the interaction of stimulating current with neuronal activity. Mathematical modeling and computational techniques can be used as a practical and useful tool in developing a combined approach of structural and numerical models to analyze the surrounding structure, Interactions with neural activity and Visualization of the spatial expansion of the stimulation current at the location of the stimulation electrode in the brain. Mathematical modeling and computational techniques have been developed to optimize DBS and improve patient outcomes. This paper reviews mathematical modeling, computational techniques and detection mechanisms for DBS, the current state of the art, challenges and future directions for DBS optimization.
