Introduction: Iran is one of the ten incident-prone countries in the world and ranks sixth in the incidence of natural disasters. Training of coping with disasters plays an important role in reducing the related risks. Local organizations and people are the best people to recognize their problems and try to solve them. This study was conducted to educate the first aid to local residents and examining its effectiveness in reducing the effects of accidents and disasters in Mazandaran Emergency Medical Center.Methodology: This semi-experimental study was conducted from May ۲۰۱۸ to October ۲۰۱۹ on ۱۶۱ volunteers participating in the first aid plan. The sample size was determined based on the Cochran's formula.Data were collected through demographic information form, first aid checklist, and basic CPR questionnaire and then, analyzed using SPSS software version ۲۱. In this study, Paired t-test and ANOVA test were used to compare the mean of the quantitative variables before and after the intervention. The significant level was considered as much as ۰.۰۵.Findings: The average age of the participants was ۳۰±۷ years old. Most of the participants (۶۶.۲%) were in the age group of ۲۵-۴۴ years old. ۸۸.۸% of the participants were women and the rest were men. There was a statistically significant difference in the level of awareness of the people in the study after the implementation of ۵۰-hour training workshops (p<۰.۰۰۱).Conclusion: The level of awareness and knowledge about first aid in medical emergencies improved significantly so that the average pre-test scores increased from ۳۵% to ۷۹% in the post-test.
