چکیده مقاله:

Surface fault rupturing could cause devastating damage to the constructions and the infrastructures which are built across fault zones. Among the numerous mitigation strategies which have been suggested, recently, a novel approach refers to implementing a strong inclined wall (SIW) beneath the surface foundation proposed for deviating the reverse fault rupture. Despite the advantages of this procedure over previous solutions such as expanded polystyrene sheets (EPS), application of the mentioned method, continues to be inconvenient for existing surface foundations. Aiming to address practical application, a new executable strategy based on strong inclined micro-piles (SIMPs) is developed in the present study by employing a comprehensive ۳D finite element analysis. The results indicate that executing a well-designed row of micro-piles with a proper angle of installation can protect surface foundations against reverse fault rupture. The installation of SIMPs is both a convenient and cost-effective strategy. The pivotal parameters of the same designing of such micro-piles for real cases including diameter, the angle of installation, and the optimal distance between each of two consecutive implemented micro-piles were investigated
