REBT Psychotherapy Approach on Reducing Rumination and Psychological Distress in Offenders Drug Addicts' Wives

Background: Psychological challenges faced by spouses of prisoners are significant. Also Cognitive factors, including error patterns in thinking, are significantly associated with psychological problems. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate REBT psychotherapy approach on reducing rumination and psychological distress in Offenders drug addicts' wives. Methods: This research was conducted using a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design with the control group and the community of prisoners' wives under the cover of the Meybod Prisoners Support Association in ۲۰۲۳. ۳۲ participants were selected by the convenience sampling method and assigned to experimental and control groups. Research tools included Ruminative Response Scale (Nolen-Hoeksema & Morrow, ۱۹۹۱) and Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (Kessler et al., ۱۹۹۷). The rational-emotive behavior therapy (REBT) Program was presented to the experimental group on a weekly basis during ۸ sessions of ۱.۵ hours, and the experimental group did not receive the training. The data obtained from the research were analyzed using multivariate covariance analysis in SPSS۲۶ statistical software. Results: results showed REBT was effective in decrease rumination and psychological distress scores of imprisoned drug addicts' wives (p<۰.۰۰۱). Conclusion: REBT effectively decreases rumination and psychological distress in imprisoned addicts' wives REBT reduces rumination and distress in drug addicts' wives; can be used as an effective intervention.
