Comparison of Mental Health and Self – Esteem in Prayerful and Ordinary People

For years, the role of religion and religious rituals in individual and social life has been the focus of mental health professionals and believes that religious effects and consequences in life have reduced the distress of individuals and help them adapt to social norms. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to compare mental health and self -esteem in people who are constantly praying and ordinary people. To do this research, ۱۰۰ members participated in the extracurricular classes of Zahedan Islamic Advertising Organization and ۱۰۰ ordinary individuals were selected in a simple random way, and public health questionnaires (GHQ) and Cooper Smith's Self -Esteem Questionnaire They completed. For data analysis, independent group t -test tests were used using SPSS ۱۶ software. The results showed that there were significant differences between the two groups in the scales of depression, anxiety, social performance and self -esteem, which is, the prayers were more mental health and the level of self -esteem, but in terms of physical symptoms between the two groups there was no significant difference. The results of the present study are in line with the findings of previous research. Given the key role of prayer and adherence to Islamic teachings in the lives of our society as an Islamic society, mental health activists should benefit from religious -based treatments and education to promote the mental health of the community, as well as cultural officials. They also strive to develop and develop religious teachings and prayer culture.
