Liquid-phase catalytic hydrogenation of a binary aromatic mixture of benzene and toluene using a novel catalyst (Nano-Ni catalyst supported on MWCNTs) has been studied in a semi-batch reactor operating at elevated temperatures and pressure (T=110-170 °C ,P=35bar). The main reaction product was always the completely hydrogenated cycloalkane. In mixtures, the aromatic compounds reacted in queues so that the most reactive components started to react immediately while the least reactive components did not react until the most reactive components had been hydrogenated. An heterogeneous model for reactor simulation has been employed incorporating vapor-liquid equilibrium, and mass transfer limitations. A number of kinetic equations published in literature have been investigated and the most appropriate for this work have been chosen. The model was able to describe hydrogenation kinetics of the binary aromatic mixture. The results revealed that the nickle on MWCNTs exhibits good activity for hydrgenation of aromatics
