Extraction and purification of Balangu (Lallemantia royleana) seed gum

In this work, Balangu gum (BSG) was isolated from the seeds of balangu by warm-water extraction under the conditions of (temperature = 50C, pH = 8.5, concentration of NaCl = 0.05 M and the ratio of water/ seed = 57:1). BSG isolated from local balangu seeds yielded about 17% of light brown crude gum powder. For the purification, gum powder immersed in chloroform and hexane then refluxed with ethanol and finally dialyzed by using a dialysis tube with a cut-off of 3500 Da to achieve components with higher than 3500 Da molecular weight in polysaccharide fraction.
