Identification of Problems in Practical Physical Education Classes

چکیده مقاله:

Background: The purpose of the present research was to identify the problems of practical physical education (PE) classes in Mazandaran Province, Iran. Materials and methods: A mixed methodology with qualitative and quantitative data was employed. The population consisted of all the professors and students of PE faculties in Mazandaran. 100 students and 17 professors were selected using convenience sampling. A questionnaire was developed for data collection based on Delphi s method. Face validity of the instrument was confirmed by PE experts and its reliability was ensured using Cronbach s alpha ( a=0.82). One-sample t-test, t-test for independent samples, and Friedman test were used for data analysis in SPSS. Results and discussions: The results of Freidman test showed that insufficient expertise of professors was the most important problem of practical PE courses (8.59), followed by insufficient experience (8.24), lack of sport facilities and equipment (7.97), intensive classes (7.14), lack of balance between theory and practice (7.08), overcrowded classrooms (6.91), lack of motivation and enthusiasm in students (6.84), inappropriate behavior of professors (6.82), inappropriate class time (6.72), students poor physical fitness (6.34), lack of relevant books and textbooks (6.19), lack of professor supervision of classroom activities (6.11), and lack of practical classes (6.06). No significant gender differences were observed in the problems with practical PE classes (t = −0.599; p = 0.551). Conclusion: Practical implications are provided for PE professors. development of physical education entails identification of the problems and requirements of this field. Given the present findings, it is recommended that universities provide sufficient sports facilities and equipment and use qualified and experienced professors, while supervising both the behavior of professors and the progress of students.
