چکیده مقاله:

Background and aims: Shigellosis is a disease caused by Shigella. Seasonal pattern (summerhighest) is seen. The epidemiology and antibiotic sensitivity of Shigella is changingworldwide. The bacterias have become resistant to antibiotics, and using drugs withoutantibiogram test can cause the microbes more resistant in the future. The survey of drugresistance, shigella species and percent of shigellosis, are our aims. Methods: In a cross sectional study, antibiotic resistance and epidemiology of shigella specieswere determined. All patients were studied by stool culture with standard microbiologicalmethods, and antibiogram. Data was analyzed by SPSS version 14.Results: 236 specimens were cultured. 10 patients (4.2%), had shigellosis .1 or 10%dysenteria, 1 or 10% flexanary, 6 or 60% sonei, and 2 or 20 % boydi have been isolated.Death was not seen. Also drug resistance to Resistance to Trimetoprime- sulfometoxazolewas 85% and Ampicillin was 55%.Conclusions: The common bacteria in Iran are similar to developed countries (sonei). Thecause is the quality of health services. It is necessary that treatment must be achieved afterantibiogram. There are no effective vaccines for prevention.
