Teachers’ Perceptions toward Online Education during Pandemic: A Case of Iranian EFL Teachers

چکیده مقاله:
The present study intended to explore Iranian EFL teachers’ perceptions of the effectiveness of online education during pandemic. To this aim, a convenient sample of teachers (N=۹۲) from different classes and institutes in Iran was recruited to participate in the study. All of the participants had the experience of online teaching for two years. In data collection phase, all of the participants were asked questions in line with the effectiveness of online education and their responses were audio recorded for further analysis. As all of them were EFL teachers, interviews conducted in English. After thematic analysis, results indicated that most of the teachers (N= ۷۹) had positive view toward online education. They asserted that they can use more online tools which help their teaching which leads to better leaning. Playing audio files and related video clips were the participants’ concern in face to face education which as they mentioned, this issue has been resolved in online education. On the other hand, few teachers (N=۱۳) had negative or neutral view toward online education. They stated that they have no control over students in online classes and there are technical problems regarding online tools and internet which affect learning. Overall, the findings showed a positive perception of teachers in line with online education. Moreover, the present study has insights and implications for EFL teachers and curriculum designers.
